Christian Version of Jewish Temple Services - Evening Service 3:00PM

Evening Service (3:00 PM) (the 9th hour in which Christ breathed his last)

Evening Service (3:00 PM)

1. Call to Worship

✝️ Evening Call to Worship (3:00 PM Service) – “A Fragrant Offering”

Let my prayer rise before You like incense,
the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. (Psalm 141:2)

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;
keep watch at the door of my lips.
Let me not turn aside to what is evil,
to join with those who do wickedness. (Psalm 141:3–4)

The end of all things is near.
Therefore, I will be alert and sober in mind, so that I may pray.
Above all, I will love deeply,
for love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:7–8)

I do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
So then, let me not fall asleep in apathy,
but be awake and self-controlled. (1 Thessalonians 5:5–6)

Let no corrupt talk come out of my mouth,
but only what is good for building up,
that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29)

Who is wise and understanding?
Let him show it by a good life,
by deeds done in humility that comes from wisdom.
For the wisdom from above is pure,
then peace-loving, considerate, submissive,
full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (James 3:13, 17)

Lord, do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil.
Keep my eyes fixed on You.
Though the snares are laid around me,
I take refuge in You alone. (Psalm 141:4, 8–9)

I offer myself to You, Lord,
as a living sacrifice—holy and acceptable. (Romans 12:1)

May the fragrance of Christ rise from my life—
a pleasing aroma before Your throne. (2 Corinthians 2:15)

Blessed are You, Lord God,
who receives the prayers of the righteous
and keeps them in perfect peace.

Incense Offering (Optional)

🕯️ Incense Lighting Prayer – Based on Psalm 141:2
“Let my prayer rise before You as incense,
the lifting of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Lord, as this smoke rises, may my worship, thanksgiving, and intercession ascend to Your throne. Purify my heart, and let my life be a pleasing aroma to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

✝️ Christian Version of HaMaariv Aravim: “Lord of the Evening”

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of creation, who brings on the evening with wisdom and grace. You stretch out the heavens, set the stars in their courses, and mark the seasons with faithfulness. As the day fades and night rises, we rest in the rhythm You designed—from light to dark, from labor to peace. In Your mercy, You guard our going out and our coming in. You never slumber nor sleep. In Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, You have overcome the darkness. Let His peace rest upon us as we lay down, and let His light rise in our hearts anew each morning. Blessed are You, Lord, who brings the evening in peace and covers us in love.

✝️ Christian Adaptation of Ahavat Olam - Blessing for God’s eternal love

With an everlasting love, You have loved us, O Lord our God. In Your mercy, You gave us Your Word, Your commandments, and in the fullness of time, the Living Word—Jesus the Messiah. Teach us to walk in Your ways. May we meditate on Your Word when we lie down and when we rise. Let Your truth be written on our hearts, and may the Spirit guide us into all righteousness. For Your Word is life and light, and through it You renew us daily. Blessed are You, O Lord, who loves His people and fulfills His promises in Christ.

2. Recitation of the Shema

📍 1. God Is One and We Are to Love Him Fully

(based on Deuteronomy 6:4–9 & Mark 12:29–30)

Hear, O people of God: The LORD is our God, the LORD is the only One. There is no other. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. These words are to be written on your heart. Speak of them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you rise. Let them guide your hands and fill your thoughts. Let them be present in your homes, and written on your lives.

 1. Deuteronomy 6:4–9

Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD is the only one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

📍 2. Abide in Obedience and Trust God's Provision

(based on Deuteronomy 11:13–21 & John 15:4–10)

If you listen diligently to the voice of the Lord, and walk in the way of His Son Jesus Christ, He will cause your life to flourish like a well-watered garden. Abide in Him, and He will abide in you. Apart from Him, you can do nothing. Keep His words close, teach them to your children, and let them be ever on your lips—in your homes, your travels, your resting, and your rising. Then your days and the days of your children will be rich in His peace and presence, as long as the heavens are above the earth.

2. Deuteronomy 11:13–21
And if you will indeed obey My commandments that I command you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And He will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full. Take care lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them; then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and He will shut up the heavens, so that there will be no rain, and the land will yield no fruit, and you will perish quickly off the good land that the LORD is giving you.

You shall therefore lay up these words of Mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth.

📍 3. Remember Who You Belong To

(inspired by Numbers 15:41 & 1 Peter 2:9–10; Titus 2:11–14)

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Remember that you are not your own—you were bought with a price. Christ redeemed you from lawlessness, and has purified you to be His own, zealous for good works. I am the LORD your God—who brought you out of slavery into freedom, from sin into life. Walk worthy of this calling.

3. Numbers 15:37–41

The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, and tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a cord of blue on the tassel of each corner. And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after. So you shall remember and do all My commandments, and be holy to your God. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the LORD your God.”

🕊️ Text of Emet V’Emunah (Standard English Translation)

“True and faithful is all this. You are the LORD our God and the God of our fathers—our King and the King of our fathers, our Redeemer and the Redeemer of our ancestors, our Maker, the Rock of our salvation; our Deliverer and Rescuer from everlasting, such is Your Name; there is no God but You. You have always been the help of our ancestors, a Shield and Savior for their children after them in every generation. Your dwelling is in the heavens above, and Your justice and righteousness reach the ends of the earth. Blessed is the LORD, who redeemed Israel. Blessed are You, O LORD, who redeemed Israel.”

     * Hashkiveinu – Prayer for peace during the night
🌙 Traditional English Translation of Hashkiveinu
Lay us down, O LORD our God, in peace, and raise us up again, our King, to life. Spread over us the shelter of Your peace. Guide us with Your good counsel, and save us for the sake of Your Name. Shield us from every enemy, plague, sword, famine, and sorrow. Remove the adversary from before us and from behind us. Shelter us in the shadow of Your wings, for You, God, are our Protector and Deliverer; You are a gracious and merciful King. Guard our going out and our coming in, for life and for peace, from now and forever. Blessed are You, LORD, who spreads the shelter of peace upon us, upon all His people Israel, and upon Jerusalem.
