Keep the Fire Lit: Fervent Love, Fervent Prayer

🔥 Keep the Fire Lit: Fervent Love, Fervent Prayer 🔥

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” — Mark 12:30

Believing in Jesus isn’t enough to set us apart from demons—they believe, and tremble (James 2:19). What makes us different is love, obedience, and fervor. To love God with all your heart is not a passive acknowledgment—it’s an active, consuming response.

“Because you are like lukewarm water—neither hot nor cold—I will spit you out of my mouth.”

— Revelation 3:16 (NLT)

Lukewarm faith disgusts God. He’s not looking for casual acknowledgment. He’s calling us to a spiritual boiling point.

Romans 12:11 (NIV) says:

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

The original Greek paints the picture more clearly: “Boil in the Spirit.”

Imagine putting a pot of water on the stove. At first, it’s cold. But if you keep the flame high, the water slowly heats—until it bubbles with power. That’s us. Prayer, Scripture, love, speaking in tongues, confession, worship, obedience—these are the things that position us over the flame of God. At first, it might feel routine. But stay with it. Stay lit. And soon, you’ll be at full boil. Note that the flame’s temperature is always hotter than the water because water maxes out at 100°C/212°F while the flame, the source (God), doesn’t max out, but for the purpose of this example the blue flame on your stove is around 1,600°C/2,912°F.

God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:29). His flame never weakens—ours just needs to catch up. Jesus walked around at a constant 100 °C. And when we are at full boil, miracles, signs, and wonders begin to pour out of us—not because we’re powerful, but because we’re in sync with Him; it’s his flame making the water boil, not the water.

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

— James 5:16 (NKJV)

“Above all, have fervent love for one another, for ‘love covers a multitude of sins.’”

— 1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV)

Let your love be fervent. Let your prayers be fervent. Let your life boil with the Spirit. Don’t settle for lukewarm—stay fervent. Jesus walked this earth at a spiritual 100°—and by His Spirit, so can you (1 John 2:6).
